As Twitter prepares to relaunch its verification process, a number of verified accounts also stand to lose their status. The company has announced that the new rules will take effect on January 20, with verified inactive and incomplete accounts slotted to lose their badges. Twitter will however send an email with a notification warning them of the impending changes. Accounts of deceased users will however, be exempted from this rule. Whatsapp has started rolling out voice and video calls for whatsapp web and desktop in beta. The popular feature is already available for android and iOS users, albeit for a limited number of people. The new update will give users the added option of using Whatsapp video call on web for their conferencing right on the desktop. Kenya Power has launched a Ksh800 million electricity network management programme aimed at maintaining the electricity network countrywide. Soft drink manufacturer Coca-Cola has announced plans to retrench over 2,200 employees globally as a result of reduced sales during the Covid-19 pandemic period. According to reports by CNN, the company will retrench 1,200 employees in the US and 500 in Atlanta where it is headquartered. The company directly employs around 10,400 people in the US. Netflix is rolling out an audio-only mode for android users who do not wish to watch show or movie visuals. Subscribers will now see a “video off” button when streaming. A blank screen will appear once you click the button, but you will still be able t listen to the show’s audio. Kenya has traded more than Sh6 billion in Bitcoin over the past five years, coming second to Nigeria which has the highest figures in Africa at Sh63 billion. President Uhuru Kenyatta has today launched the National Security Telecommunications Service (NSTS), an integrated platform that will allow  sharing of telecommunication infrastructure by government agencies. Twitter has announced that it is discontinuing the  ‘quote tweet’ feature that prompts you to add a caption before retweeting a tweet. The announcement comes just after the company announced last week that it was also discontinuing the new reply function. Gjenge makers, a company comprising of four engineers in Nairobi has found a way of recycling plastic by making bricks out of single-use plastic such as bottle tops and cooking oil containers.
