South Kabuoch ward administrator Jack Ochieng has reportedly committed suicide. The administrator is said to have drove his car to a forest near Kodiera trading centre, parked it by the roadside before hanging himself with a rope. 36 teachers have been interdicted by the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) over alleged gross misconduct. This was announced by TSC CEO Nancy Macharia, who revealed that the teachers’ names have been struck off from the register and will not be allowed to teach in any school including private institutions. “In exercise of powers conferred by section 30(1) (e) of TSC Act, the commission wishes to notify the public that the persons whose names appear in the notice have been deregistered. The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) has froze the accounts of 11 universities over tax remittance row that has denied the taxman at least Ksh10 billion. Among those affected are giant institutions including Kenyatta, Technical, Multi-Media, Garissa, Pwani, Jomo Kenyatta, Egerton, Maasai Mara, Moi, Rongo and the University of Nairobi. Most of the universities have not remitted Pay as You Earn (PAYE) deductions for years, leaving them with a burden of tax arrears. Such remittances should be paid to the KRA on ninth of evry month, lest they attract a 25 per cent penalty of the amount of the tax involved.…
An 18-year-old squaddie who was in Kenya for a military tour is fighting for his life in the ICU after breaking military rules and going for a cocaine-fuelled night out. The teenager, Pte Nathan Scott, was in a team of 80 British soldiers who arrived in the country on Saturday and camped at the Nanyuki Army base.
