Guaranty Trust Bank (GT Bank) has announced the closure of its Ngong Road Branch in a restructuring move. The bank is targeting to shut down non-performing branches, which may see several staffers retrenched. In a circular to customers, the Bank said that the branch will be shut down by September 30 in a bid to “re-strategize our operations”. World Bank has pulled out of the 26km James Gichuru-Rironi Road upgrade project, forcing the Government of Kenya to chip in and top up Ksh13 billion. The World Bank was supposed to fund the project with Ksh13 billion, with the government paying Ksh3.3 billion. The project is reported to have stalled, as the Kenya National Highway Authority (KeNHA) seeks for additional billions to compensate land owners. The government was seeking Ksh10 billion funding to cater for the additional unplanned land compensation claims, which seems to have backfired. The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has summoned Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei over incitement remarks he made at the funeral of the late teacher Dominic Kiptoo Choge at Lelwak in O’lessos. The senator’s remarks are believed to be bordering hate speech, after saying that DP William Ruto’s supporters are “marking and profiling” those criticising him. President Uhuru Kenyatta has appointed lawyer Gershom Otachi as the National Land Commission (NLC) chairman for a tenure of six years. Businessman Humphrey Kariuki has been re-arrested minutes after he was released on bail. Kariuki was arrested outside the High Court by sleuths from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations, who had been waiting outside the court. National Environment Management Authority (Nema) officials on Monday raided the offices of the Nairobi City Water and Sewerage Company (NCWSC) seeking to arrest acting Managing Director Nahashon Muguna, but he escaped. The government will not collect stamp duty from the merger of the National Industrial Credit (NIC) Bank and the Commercial Bank of Africa (CBA), amounting to at least Ksh350 million. The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) has invited the public to view uncleared government and private investors’ goods in 750 containers lying at the Mombasa Port and at the Inland Container Depot (ICD) in Nairobi for auction. A man from Makunga village, Trans Nzoia County has killed his wife, and later committed suicide following a quarrel over a suspected love triangle. Numerous screams from the woman identified as Caren Chebet attracted the attention of the neighbours at 3am, who found the door locked from inside. Former Makadara MP Reuben Ndolo was arrested last night at Bustani Gardens along Oledume Road for allegedly creating disturbance and threatening to kill. Ndolo was arrested by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) alongside six others namely Mr Daniel Otieno Juma, Mr George Otieno, Mr Cyrus Nyamboga Gichana, Mr Bernard Ochieng Andai, Mr, Dick Otieno Ombaka and Mr Hassan Dima Wario.
