Deputy President William Ruto has said that he discussed alleged assassination plot with President Uhuru Kenyatta. In an interview with K24’s Ann Kiguta, Ruto however refused to divulge more details about the alleged plot, saying that he had agreed with the President not to discuss it in public. “I discussed the matter you have asked about with the President and it will not be prosecuted in the media,” said Ruto. Residents of Kutulo area in Mandera County today saved at least 20 non-locals from being abducted by Al-shabaab militants. According to reports, three Al-shabaab gunmen planned to raid a construction site and abduct non-locals, but the residents tipped the non-locals to vacate before the gunmen arrived. Even after arrival, the residents confronted the gunmen telling them there were no people in the construction site. The gunmen forced their way, only to find the site ghosted. Meru County Speaker Joseph Kaberia’s bodyguard Constable Samuel Munga has been shot dead today at Kamiti Corner, Nairobi. Preliminary investigations have linked the attack to the speaker’s official driver Mr Andrew Nabea , who has already been arrested. Munga was was shot in the chest and was pronounced dead on arrival at the Ruaraka Neema Hospital in Kasarani area. Information regarding significant shareholders in companies will be laid bare in new rules published by the Attorney General Paul Kihara. According to the Companies (Beneficial Ownership Information) Regulations, 2019 which will take effect in six months time, all companies will be required to keep a register of beneficial owners with the registrar of businesses. The register will entail information such as beneficial owners’ full name, current telephone number, date of birth, postal and residential address, occupation, current email address, passport number or national identification number. The High Court has stopped the sale of Athi River Mining Cement Company (ARM) to Devki Group of Companies’ National Cement. This follows an objection by its former CEO Pradeep Paunrana who has moved to court saying that the company (ARM) had been undervalued in the Ksh5 billion buyout deal. Naivas Supermarket has suspended sale of red meat in its outlets countrywide following revelations that it was selling meat laced with excess and harmful preservatives. This follows a move by Governors Mike Sonko (Nairobi) and Alfred Mutua (Machakos) closing down meat sections of various supermarkets in their counties, Naivas included. Photo-sharing app Instagram is set to do away with the likes count feature in a bid to reduce pressure that is associated with accumulating likes. The app has already piloted the removal of the feature in Canada (in May) and the new test is rolling out in Australia, New Zealand, Ireland, Italy, Japan and Brazil. In the new move, the app will only show “liked by so and so and others”, instead of showing the number. 218 Kenyans who worked for Unilever during the 2007/8 post election violence (PEV) period have moved to UK Supreme Court seeking compensation, citing negligence on the part of the company. The 218 say that the UK headquartered company failed to protect them from the foreseeable risk of ethnic violence on a Unilever tea plantation in in Kericho. African are more than twice as likely to be denied a UK visa than applicants from any other part of the world, a new study shows. Nairobi governor Mike Sonko has said that the county has no apologies for Pangani Estate tenants whose houses were demolished. According to Sonko, the houses which belong to the county were to be demolished in 2016 but politics and “bad leadership” played in delaying construction of new affordable housing.
