Kenyans are decrying high penalties to graduates by the Higher Education Loans Board (Helb), amounting to Ksh5,000 per month. According to Kenyans who expressed their distaste online, most of the graduates are unemployed and have no source of livelihood, hence penalizing them would be like overburdening them. 10.2 million cyber threats were detected between October and December by the National Kenya Computer Incident Response Team – Coordination Centre (National KE-CIRT/CC), up from 1.8 million reported in the preceding quarter, nine million of which were malware attacks. Kenya is among the global money laundering hotspots, the United States of American government has said. According to a report by the United States Department of State Bureau for International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs, the state of affairs in the country are instigated by lack of controls on terrorism financing. “Kenya remains vulnerable to money laundering and financial fraud. Land grabbers are back at a piece of land in Westlands’ Highridge Estate, which was earmarked for construction of Highridge Health Centre. In August 2018, Nairobi governor Mike Sonko announced repossession of the same land from cartels. “As promised, we will not spare anyone in this campaign aimed at restoring to the public what belongs to them,” Sonko said. It was reported that the land was sold to an ‘innocent’ buyer by the grabbers, but the governor did not disclose what measures had been taken to ward off the cartels from coming back. Visiting Uganda President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni today faced it rought at Kenyatta University where students tried to shout him down as he delivered a public lecture at the facility. In a video shared online, the students are seen chanting Bobi Wine, Museveni’s political archrival in Uganda, who is the member of parliament for Kyadondo East. The Pharmacy and Poisons Board today oversaw destruction of Fiesta brand of condoms worth Ksh10 million over quality issues. In a statement, the board said the condoms were recalled from several point of sales after it was noted that they were substandard.
