Property belonging to Bishop David Kariuki Ngare alias Gakuyo will not be sold to recover lost money, for now. This is after the High Court stopped the sale of the property, to allow the government to finish investigation into issues leading to the collapse of Ekeza Sacco, which belongs to the preacher. A Ksh4.8 billion scandal at the prisons department has been foiled by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC). According to EACC CEO Twalib Mbarak, the department was about to pay Ksh4.8 billion upfront for the supply of security items in a flawed tendering process. Susan Wangari Kamaru, the widow of celebrated Kikuyu Benga musician Joseph Kamaru died last week of cardiac arrest in Rongai at her daughter’s home. She died at the age of 78. “She died on Saturday at around 10pm, when she visited my sister in Rongai. Our mother has been ailing for three years and had been treated in various hospitals,” said Boniface Maina, her son. Three Chinese nationals; Wang Liyong, Ye Dalu and Peng Hongwen are facing charges of robbery with violence. The three allegedly robbed off Mr Samuel Mbugua Njoroge of a Mitsubishi Pajero worth Ksh2.1 million and Ksh5 million in cash. Michael Oyamo and Caspal Obiero, prime suspects in Sharon Otieno’s murder have been freed on a Ksh2 million bond each and one surety of same amount or a cash bail of Ksh1,000,000. The government is still silent even as Mt Kenya fire reduces to ashes 80,000 hectares of mooland, in the sixth day. The fire has so far razed down the better part of Mt Kenya National Park in Tharaka-Nithi county, leading to the death of several animals. Tanzania has banned the publication of The Citizen newspaper for seven days, effective today. This follows a story it published on depreciation of the shilling against the dollar on February 23, which the government terms as false. “(The Citizen) deliberately published misleading information that the value of the Tanzanian shilling has declined compared to three years ago without following the due procedure and financial standards set by the Bank of Tanzania ,” said the registrar of newspapers, Mr Patrick Kipangula. Yesterday, a raid in a house in Ruiru house unearthed a rot in the financial sector, with over Ksh32 billion fake money being recovered, both in local and foreign currency. Fake gold was also discovered in the house. Officer commanding police division (OCPD) position has been scrapped in the National Police Service (NPS) and in its place a new position instituted, the sub-county police commanders (SCPC). This will see the number of the commanders reduce from 597 OCPDs to 322 SCPCs in the changes aimed at aligning the NPS to the current administrative boundaries.
