Kenya Power’s half year profits have fallen by over 25 percent as compared to the previous half-year mark profits. The company has blamed the massive drop to challenges in the country’s economic environment. In the year ended June 2017, Kenya Power earned Ksh120.7 billion profits before tax and a profit of Ksh7.27 billion after tax. Chairman of Sarova Hotels, MS Vohra, his wife, sister and wife of his late son (JS Vohra) have died in a road accident at Kiungwani, Makueni County. The accident occurred at around 1530hrs according to police reports. The accident involved Vohra’s Toyota Prado, which had his family on board. Police have nabbed 1.7 tons of banned plastic bags in Mombasa, while in transit from Tanzania. The owner is still at large, according to National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) boss Stephen Wambua. “We impounded 17 bales of plastic bags which were found to have been offloaded from a Simba Coach bus registration number KBU 343C at the Simba Coach Offices at Mwembe tayari. Nigerian government has announced that 55 people have died in Nigeria’s Northern Kaduna State in a market violence between Christians and Muslims. This was announced by Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari. The County Government of Nairobi has barred the Isuzu’s Bus Rapid Transport (BRT) buses from starting operations in the city over design concerns. The County Transport executive Mohamed Dagane yesterday said that the buses did not meet the specifications set out by the Ministry of Transport and the Nairobi Metropolitan Area Transport Authority. “We will not allow them on our roads because if we do, then other people will come with their own buses as long as they are high capacity,” said Dagane. Uchumi Supermarket management has not been able to access their headquarters at Industrial Area since October 2. This follows a move by the landlord, the Kenya National Trading Corporation (KNTC), to lock out the staffers stationed at the premises over unspecified amount of rent arrears.
