British pharmaceutical company GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) has unveiled a new Panadol product that relieves pain fast. Panadol Extra with Optizorb contains a formulae that combines paracetamol, caffeine and Optizorb technology to create a product that is absorbed faster in the stomach, the company said. Uganda-based motorbike hailing service SafeBoda has launched in Nairobi and will charge customers Ksh30 per kilometre. The service has brought down motorbike ride fee to a minimum of Ksh30, as compared to existing fees for Estonian ride-hailing company Taxify Boda which charges a minimum of Ksh50. For longer journeys, users will be required to pay Kh25 base fare, Ksh30 per kilometre and Ksh1 per minute. Deputy Chief Justice (DCJ) Philomena Mwilu is facing graft allegations and is probably being investigated by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) over numerous counts of stealing, abuse of office and unlawful failure to pay taxes. According to a local daily which did not mention her name, Mwilu had been reported by the Kenya Revenue Authority to the Director of Public Prosecutions over the suspicious movement of large sums of money in and out of bank accounts, suspected to be proceeds of graft. Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Chairman Wafula Chebukati has told off resigned commissioners who came back to office on Friday,saying that they will not be allowed back. The commissioners include former vice-chairperson Consolata Maina, Paul Kurgat and Margaret Mwachanya. In a statement, the chairman says the three commissioners issued a public statement of their resignation on April 16, and sent their resignation letters to the President as required by the law. 18 former officials of the National Coordination Consultative Committee(NCCC) on Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) are being investigated by the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) for allegedly diverting compensation funds meant for 2007/8 Post election Violence (PEV) IDPs to private accounts. Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) Governor Dr Parick Njoroge is on the spot for irregularly awarding software development company Oracle Kenya Ltd a contract worth Ksh1,334,082,212 in a record time of three days. The Constitutional Court of Zimbabwe has dismissed an opposition bid to have presidential election results annulled over alleged rigging in favour of Robert Mugabe’s successor, Emmerson Mnangagwa for lack of sufficient evidence. Giving the ruling today, Chief Justice Luke Malaba said that the opposition led by Mnangagwa’s arch-rival Nelson Chamisa failed to substantiate his allegations that the election was rigged. “In the final analysis, the court finds the applicant has failed to place before it clear, direct, sufficient and credible evidence. Former Embu Senator Lenny Kivuti has moved to Supreme Court to challenge the Court of Appeal’s decision to uphold election of Governor Martin Nyaga Wambora. On August 17, the Court of Appeal overturned High Court’s decision to nullify Martin Wambora’s re-election as Embu governor, saying that the irregularities cited by the opponent Lenny Kivuti could not be attributable to him.
