Former PS Lilian Omollo has been cleared of graft charges. Chief Magistrate Lucas Onyina on Tuesday allowed Director of Public Prosecutions’ request to have the charges withdrawn under section 87 of the Criminal Procedure Code. Omollo was accused of making a Sh167,715,700 million payment to Firstling Limited, Kunjiwa Enterprises, and Ameritrade Limited. In June, the prosecution applied to withdraw abuse of office and conspiracy to commit felony charges, among others, under section 87 (a) of the criminal procedure code. Principal Secretary for Sports Peter Tum has denied any involvement in the bungled mosquito net procurement deal at the Kenya Medical Supplies Authority (Kemsa). Appearing before a Senate Committee, PS Tum said the agency was not on his docket. A High Court has quashed the appointment of 50 Chief Administrative Secretaries (CAS) by President William Ruto. Three judges—Justices Kanyi Kimondo, Hedwing Ong’udi, and Visram Alnashir—rendered the ruling on Monday. An activist has moved to court seeking to block four individuals from attending Cabinet meetings. Charles Mugane wants Cleophas Malala, David Ndii, Ambassador Monica Juma, and Harriette Chiggai blocked from attending meetings since they are not members of the Cabinet as defined by Article 152 of the Kenyan Constitution of 2010. President William Ruto has lifted a six-year ban on logging in public forests. The head of state on Sunday noted that although the country imports lumber, older trees are decomposing in the forests. Dr Ruto explained that since he wants furniture locally made, then importers will be forced to pay taxes. “Trees are decaying in the forest while people are struggling to get timber. The Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC) has justified its decision to enact a compensation increase for State and public servants from July 1. SRC Chairperson Lyn Mengich stated that the commission was only executing the third of a four-part cycle of agreed-upon compensation increases for public employees.
