Retired President Uhuru Kenyatta’s Jubilee Party has suspended vice chairman David Murathe and secretary general Jeremiah Kioni. The party’s National Executive Council (NEC) appointed East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) MP Kanini Kega as secretary general in an acting capacity. The former ruling party also announced that it is set to leave the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Alliance coalition party that was formed in 2022, months before the August polls. Ten suspects arrested for defrauding Safaricom Sh449.6 million through its overdraft service, Fuliza, registered thousands of SIM Cards, a court heard. Safarilink airline has admonished Kisumu Governor Prof Anyang’ Nyong’o after complaining about flight ticket pricing. The US government has issued a warning to its citizens residing in Kenya about a potential terrorist attack in Nairobi. On Thursday, the US embassy warned that terrorist organizations may plan an attack with little to no notice and target populated areas. Former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i has moved to court seeking anticipatory bail after the alleged police raid on Wednesday night. The Directorate of Criminal Investigations has uncovered a high-level group of suspected fraudsters who are believed to have received close to Sh500 million using a loan facility offered by Safaricom. Fuliza is a continuous overdraft service that allows Safaricom MPesa customers to complete transactions even though they do not have enough money. Inspector General of Police Japheth Koome has denied his officers raided the home of former Interior CS Fred Matiang’i on Wednesday night. In a suit filed before the Political Parties Tribunal, Nelson Ogeto is asking for Sh30 million in damages. A tribunal has recommended the removal of High Court judge, Said Juma Chitembwe. President William Ruto received the tribunal’s findings on Tuesday.
