A Nairobi-based hotel, Oak Place, is giving its workers only three hours to go vote and return to work. The hotel has sent out a memo also informing its Kenyan staff that the three hours will be on shifts. What happens if for some strange reason the staff is delayed or is unable to vote within the stipulated three hours? Well, the hotel has informed its workers to either choose work or politics. Such is the disdainful attitude of the expatriate-dominated high end hotel industry in Kenya. On TripAdvisory, boarders at the hotel made the following observation: “OK facilities for…

Mombasa gubernatorial candidates Hassan Joho of ODM and Hassan Omar of Wiper are set to share a NASA platform as the opposition coalition holds a final rally in Mombasa on Wednesday next week. Joho remains the front-runner candidate with a thin, receding lead. Omar has gained inroads in what was initially an ODM stronghold, now a fiercely contested battleground of the two NASA parties. Ford Kenya and ANC do not have gubernatorial candidates in Mombasa, with the other two front-runners being former Nyali MP Awiti Bolo and Jubilee candidate Suleiman Shabhal. The Joho-Omar contest has sharply divided NASA, with the…
The Kenyan 2017 Presidential Election will be remembered by the arrant amount of ‘fake news’ and propaganda that spiraled out of control on social media, with reputable international institutions and personalities constantly having to deny involvement as backing either side, mostly the Jubilee side. So far, letters and memos authored purportedly by reputable organizations like the US Institute of Peace, non-prof organization Vanguard Africa, European Union, Africa Union to now videos purportedly done by media entities like CNN and BBC have all been produced and shared online in a bid to mislead gullible Kenyan voters – and they are many…
While the visit to Al Ghurair Printing firm in Dubai by the media, civil society groups and agents of presidential candidates had been vehemently opposed by Jubilee and a section of IEBC secretariat, IEBC proceeded with the plans, inviting and then facilitating the visit. There have been claims of serious differences in IEBC, with the commission and the secretariat often reading from completely contrasting viewpoints, the former ready for more accountability while the later ever opposed. What’s difficult to tell is what the report on observations of the printing process by each visiting delegation was to add to, considering the…
Despite the best efforts of NASA Presidential candidate Raila Odinga to clinch the presidency, it seems Jubilee interference in NASA plans is in top gear, with new revelations of senior NASA officials working at the behest of Jubilee. For instance, while Third Way Alliance Presidential Candidate Dr. Ekuru Aukot yesterday submitted a detailed report containing the mess that ballot printing in Dubai is undergoing, NASA, which has more at stake to lose in this election than Dr. Aukot, is yet to issue any report on their observations. Dr. Aukot’s report (see separate story) was so embarrassing to IEBC that the…

Norman, a long term employee of the CORD coalition, has been under secret surveillance by Raila’s team and was being baited by deflective information that was…

IEBC has once again thrown spanner in the works after the commission outlawed use of phones and cameras in polling booths. The order is to protect the integrity of the vote. It includes not taking pictures of people queuing to vote. The commission has also said no one will be allowed to make calls within a radius of 400 meters from the polling booth, with the police allowed to make arrests. It is unclear whether the order will extend to tallying, where NASA has often said it will use such tactics as having “live coverage” of the counting, tallying and…
Despite assurances by IEBC that the Kenya Integrated Elections Management System (KIEMS) has sealed all loopholes for election rigging, including ballot stuffing, there is still numerous ways rigging can happen.
