The project, that ODM leader Raila Odinga then referred to as “Tunnel of death” is apparently 89 percent complete. Kenya’s National Intelligence Service (NIS) has contracted South Africa’s defence company Milkor to provide it with a social media surveillance system as it seeks to monitor activists and political commentators in the run-up to the 2022 general election. According to Indigo Publications owned Africa Intelligence, NIS has contracted Milkor to provide the 360 degrees social media and cybersecurity solution to the agency for a period of two years. Two top Mediamax employees have tendered their resignation and are serving notice at the firm after their salaries were slashed by 50 percent, Kahawa Tungu has learnt. Last month, Mediamax, the home of K24 TV, People Daily and Milele FM, announced plans to slash employee salaries by between 20-50 percent. The announcement led to a court battle that saw the media house barred from going on with salary cuts. Six Kenya Airways technicians are fighting for their lives in hospital with between fifty to eighty percent burns after an explosion occurred while they were servicing a plane at JKIA last week. According to sources the technicians were doing a major service (C-Check) on a Boeing 737-800 with registration 5Y KYD where they used an internationally banned substance, methyl ethyl ketone(MEK) to clean part of the plane. A former senior Kenya Prison officer Daniel Mutua is among 19 people arrested in Mutomo Sub-County in Kitui County during an operation to by the police to stop people from hiding in bars and drinking beyond curfew hours. Ethiopian troops have admitted that they shot down the Kenyan plane from African Express after it flew so low that they suspected Al Shabaab was trying to conduct a suicide mission with it. According to Sector Three Commander Brigadier General Alemu Ayene, there was no information that the plane was scheduled to fly to Bardaale and the Ethiopian forces didn’t find ways of communicating with it. NRG Radio commercial director Denis Ndavi is on the spot, again over delayed child support payments. In a tweet shared by the mother of his child, food blogger Naisenya Kimani, Ndavi owes her over Sh800,000 in child support.
