Property of unknown value has been gutted down by a 5.30 am fire that broke at a store at the Department of Defence (DoD) headquarters in Hurlingham,Nairobi. The Monday morning incident is said to have been caused by electric fault, no one was reported injured. Doctors at Thika Level Five hospital have removed 13 sewing needles from the body of a10-month-old baby. The baby had been admitted at the hospital for pneumonia and her mother while applying jelly on the baby was pricked by a needle lodged inside the baby. She then alerted the doctors and an X-ray revealed the hoard of needles inside the baby’s body prompting an operation which has been largely successful. Migori county government loses Sh800million annually, which is more than entire county health department budget due to poor sanitation in the county. The major cause of the loss is diseases caused by lack of proper toilets in homesteads and untreated water supply to the residents, experts have said. Approximately 9,545 adolescents got infected by HIV/AIDs in the four lake region Counties in the year 2015 while 771 from the same counties died of AIDs related complications. This is according to a report by National Aids Control Council (NACC) in conjunction with United Nations International Children Emergency Fund (UNICEF).
