Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga quietly jetted out of the country for DRC, Kinshasa on Friday, November 20, 2020. According to his close associates, Odinga is on an official tour as AU Special Envoy on Infrastructure Development and is expected to meet with a few other leaders. “He is in Lubumbashi, DRC for an infrastructure conference on the inter-link projects. Media personality and former TV girl Jacque Maribe has finally opened up on the events following the highly publicized murder of businesswoman Monica Kimani. In an interview with True Love magazine, Maribe has revealed that most of her friends and the famous ‘Girls’ Squad’ abandoned her. Kenya’s COVID-19 caseload is now at 75,193 after 1,048 tested positive in the last 24 hours. This was after a sample size of 8,660 was tested. From the cases, 1,018 are Kenyans and 30 are foreigners. Ideally, 594 are males and 454 are females. The youngest is a one-year-old baby while the oldest is 90. On a sad note, 19 patients have succumbed to the virus bringing the tally for fatalities to 1,349. 326 have however recovered from the virus, 107 from various hospitals across the country and 219 from home-based care. Deputy Chief Justice Philomena Mwilu’s security detail, Police Constable Titus Musyoka has narrated the events that almost led to his death three years ago. Appearing in a Kibera court, before Chief Magistrate Joyce Gandani,  the security guard vividly narrated the events as they occurred where robbers attacked him and left him almost dead. Kenya has announced 1,459 COVID-19 infections from a sample size of 10,146 in the last 24 hours. The country’s caseload is now at 74,145. Of the positive cases, 1419 are Kenyans and 40 are foreigners. Consequently, 835 are male and 624 are female, while the youngest case is a four-month-old infant and the oldest is aged 97 years. Comedian Edwin “Eddie” Butita has taken legal action against the Mall of Africa, a global online store for brand violation. According to a local publication, the comedian wants to be compensated up to Sh10 million for what he terms as “using his brand without his consent.” For instance, the mall is said to have used his image and brand to promote sales during the global November Black Friday. The burial of Matungu MP Justus Murunga has been stopped by the court following claims by a woman that he fathered her children. Keiyo North MP James Murgor has been taken to court over Sh1.4 billion tussle with 20 of his siblings. Murgor, who is an administrator of the estate is accused of sidelining other family members by denying them their legitimate share. A boat that has Capsized in Usenge beach, Siaya County has left 10 people dead and several others missing. This has been confirmed by Siaya County Police Boss Francis Kooli who indicated that the boat was ferrying goods from Uganda with approximately 20 people on board. Kooli intimated that the incident happened yesterday night but it was not until later today that it was reported. A UK study has revealed that mouthwash can kill COVID-19 within 30 seconds of exposure in a laboratory. According to the New York Post, the research was conducted at Cardiff University where it was indicated that over-the-counter mouthwashes that contain least 0.07 percent cetypyridinium chloride (CPC) showed promising signs of destroying the virus when exposed in lab testing. For instance, the scientists on the research are said to have used common brands of mouthwashes including Dentyl and Listerine where they imitated the conditions of a person’s oral and nasal passages. Concerns have been raised by the Kenya Secondary School Heads Association following the deaths of 13 headteachers and principals since the reopening of schools. In an announcement today, November 17, 2020, the Association cited that the trend is worrying although the Education Ministry has insisted that schools should remain open.
