Kenya has recorded a new high as 1,185 patients have tested positive for COVID-19. This was after a sample of 9,851 was tested. The country’s caseload is now at 53,797. On a sad note, 17 have succumbed to the deadly virus bringing the tally for fatalities to 981. Mumias Level 4 Hospital, the main Isolation centre in town is reportedly overwhelmed by COVID-19 patients leading to a crisis. This has been confirmed by Health executive Dr Collins Matemba who revealed that the facility has an isolation capacity of 50, but by yesterday, Thursday, October 29, 2020, it had 61 COVID-19 patients. Kenya has recorded 761 new COVID-19 infections in the last 24 hours. This was after a sample size of 4,830 was taken. Caseload is now at 52,612. Speaking during the daily COVID-19 briefings in Mombasa, Health CS Mutahi Kagwe indicated that Kenya currently has 15% of the infection rate. A Kenyan citizen, Aden Mohamed aged 28 years has been sentenced to death by a Somali Court over terrorism activities. According to Garowe Online, Aden and two others were accused of fighting for a terror group in Somalia since 2017. The other suspects are Abshir Mohamed, 47, and Mohamud Shiniyow. The latter was handed a 20-year jail term while the former was also handed a death sentence. The new proposals by the Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC) will see staff at the Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) receive over Sh200 million pay rise annually. Apparently, the proposed basic salary structure by SRC will create a basis for negotiations with unions representing KNH staff.
