University of Nairobi (UON) lecturers from the College of Health Sciences have threatened to go on strike just days after reopening. According to the University Academic Staff Union (UASU), the institution has failed to pay the clinical allowances thus the strike is to ensure the allowances are reinstated. “Academic staff condemn the unilateral withdrawal of payment of the clinical allowances by the University of Nairobi in complete disregard of employment and labour loss,” UASU Secretary General Constantine Wasonga said. Kenya has announced 321 new COVID-19 cases from a sample size of 4,342. The virus caseload in the country is now at 39,907. Of the new positive cases, 309 were Kenyans while 12 were foreigners. Ultimately, the youngest to have contracted the virus is a 9-month-old infant while the oldest is aged 88 years. Al Shabaab militia has released two Cuban doctors who had been abducted in Mandera enroute to work. According to Daily Mail, the two, Landy Rodriguez and Herera Correa were freed over the weekend after negotiations with their captors. This comes after the lawmaker claimed his life was in danger thus sought orders to have the security details reinstated. A commercial court has thrown out the lawsuit filed by controversial businessman Paul Kobia against the Central Bank of Kenya. Kobia had filed the suit after a local bank decline to have him bank with them. Kenya has announced 137 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours after a sample size of 1,258 was tested. The country’s caseload is now at 39,586. Speaking during the daily COVID-19 briefings, Health CAS Dr Rashid Aman further revealed that 35 of the new cases are from Nairobi Remand prison.
