Police have yet again gunned down the leader of the notorious Katombi gang that has been terrorizing residents in Mathare. Jakande Kabende aka Kababa took over after the gang’s leader Fadhili Mgaza was shot down a fortnight ago. Details by the DCI reveal that following the death of Fadhili, the gang had rebranded to “Yeyoye” gang where they promoted Kababa to be their leader. Employees from Kenya Power have threatened to go on strike over the planned mass retrenchments that are targetting 20% of the staff. The power company is planning to layoff 20% of its employees, more so the aging majority. For instance, the retrenchment program is expected to begin in May this year and will go on until June 2023. The National Police has intensified the crackdown on Fraudulent Television vendors in the streets of Nairobi. In an update, the police say they heeded complaints from customers who had been dupped to pay extra money from the agreed prices by the vendors. Apparently, customers would make orders for television sets and when they are delivered, they are forced to pay extra in a new fraudulent scheme. A manhunt has been launched for a police officer who shot a colleague dead and injured his senior at a police camp in Meru County. The bizarre incident happened yesterday with the officer, Constable Abel Chumba on the run. Authorities say the officer ran away with his rifle which is still loaded with at least 17 bullets. Star reports that Constable Chumba shot his colleague, 22-year-old Pontianas Ikumoli on the head killing him on the spot. Kenya has announced 34 new Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours after 5,136 samples were tested. The country’s caseload is now at 322,736. This brings the positivity rate to 0.7% with the cumulative tests so far conducted standing at 3,341,048. Of the new cases, 29 are Kenyans while 5 are foreigners with 17 being male while 17 females were confirmed to have contracted the virus. Narok Senator Ledama Olekina says he has never met the 27-year-old woman who has sued him for child support. Last year, a woman identified as Esther Wanjiru Gatume dragged the Senator to court for neglecting his fatherly duties to a child they sired together. Badminton players are seeking government intervention to get back in the field one year after the Badminton World Federation (BWF) imposed a ban. Last year, BWF imposed a ban on badminton players following leadership wrangles in the Kenyan Federation.
