Beth Wambui Maina, a 42-year-old woman has been arrested while transporting endangered sandalwood species worth Sh750,000 in Mombasa. According to the DCI, Ms Wambui, alias Mama Liam was intercepted at Athi River, en route Mombasa. Sandalwood is an endangered species whose harvesting was outlawed by the government in 2007. However, unscrupulous traders have continued with uprooting it more so in Baringo and Samburu. Abubakar Amin Habib has been sentenced to 30 years in prison for human trafficking by a Malindi Court. Appearing before Chief Magistrate Elizabeth Usui, Abubakar was said to have committed the offense on November 29, 2021. Mama Ngina Secondary School in Mombasa has been closed indefinitely after students attempted to burn education blocks. According to Mombasa County Director of Education Peter Magiri, at around 5 am today, a fire broke out in the washing/toilet area while the girls were preparing for morning preps. Kenya has recorded 75 new Covid-19 infections in the last 24 hours after 4,771 samples were tested. The country’s caseload is now at 255,544. This brings the positivity rate to 1.6% with the cumulative tests 2,863,425. Police have confirmed that Wanted drug dealer Bosire Makori has been gunned down by unknown men in Diani, Kwale County. Makori, aged 41 was riding home on a motorbike when he was attacked by unknown assailants and shot severally. He died on the spot. Police are probing the death of a Nairobi-based lawyer Boaz Nyakeri who was stabbed in Ongata Rongai area.
