Kenya has announced 137 new Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours after samples were 1,641 tested. The country’s caseload is now at 160,559. The country’s positivity rate is now at 8.35 with the cumulative tests so far conducted now at 1,681,420. Nandi Governor Stephen Sang has failed to appear in a Kisumu court in the Sh2 million case against him. 25 people have been arrested in Kuria West sub-county for violating Covid-19 violation following a crackdown. 17 out of the 25 were arrested yesterday for not wearing masks while in public while the others were found outside after curfew hours. According to Kuria West Police Commander, Cleti Kimaiyo, the 25 are set to be arraigned and charged at Kehancha Law Courts later today. Elgeiyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen has revealed that the relaxation of Covid-19 containment rules earlier today by President Uhuru Kenyatta has been sponsored by the BBI referendum. President Uhuru Kenyatta has issued new Covid-19 containment measures as the country celebrates Labour Day. Addressing the nation, the Head of State has lifted the temporary lockdown in the five counties which had been marked as disease-infected areas. Mkomani ward MCA Yahya Shee who was jailed for attempting to help convicted drug traffickers escape from prison has been freed on bail after appeal. Two suspected poachers were yesterday arrested with 180 kg of game meat in Kajiado by a multi-agency team. Reports indicate that officers from the Kenya Wildlife Services (KWS) received a tip-off from members of the public and thus commenced investigations. Two suspects, David Musyimi and Mwendo Mumba were arrested during the operation and found in possession of zebra and dik-dik meat weighing about 180kg and half kg respectively.
