Kenya has announced 137 new Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours after samples were 1,641 tested. The country’s caseload is now at 160,559. The country’s positivity rate is now at 8.35 with the cumulative tests so far conducted now at 1,681,420. Former rugby player Alex Olaba has been charged with conspiracy to murder and will remain in remand until Monday, May 10, 2021 pending ruling on bail cancellation in gang-rape case. The prosecutor is seeking the cancellation of bail for Olaba on allegations that he threatened the key witness in the case. Nandi Governor Stephen Sang has failed to appear in a Kisumu court in the Sh2 million case against him. Through his lawyer Jana Masai, the court heard that the Governor had fallen ill and was advised to stay in isolation. Apparently, the Governor tested positive for Covid-19 and thus is in isolation for 7 days. 25 people have been arrested in Kuria West sub-county for violating Covid-19 violation following a crackdown. 17 out of the 25 were arrested yesterday for not wearing masks while in public while the others were found outside after curfew hours. According to Kuria West Police Commander, Cleti Kimaiyo, the 25 are set to be arraigned and charged at Kehancha Law Courts later today. Elgeiyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen has revealed that the relaxation of Covid-19 containment rules earlier today by President Uhuru Kenyatta has been sponsored by the BBI referendum. According to Murkomen, the move by the Head of State to open up the country was not a result of petitions from people. President Uhuru Kenyatta has issued new Covid-19 containment measures as the country celebrates Labour Day. Addressing the nation, the Head of State has lifted the temporary lockdown in the five counties which had been marked as disease-infected areas. Leaders from Siaya County have condemned an incident where rowdy youths stormed, disrupted a political meeting. Yesterday, Senator James Orengo and Rarieda MP Otiende Amollo were forced to flee to safety after rowdy youths disrupted their meeting. Mkomani ward MCA Yahya Shee who was jailed for attempting to help convicted drug traffickers escape from prison has been freed on bail after appeal. Inspector-General of Police Hillary Mutyambai has directed the Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to form a special team that will probe the mysterious abductions and deaths of four Kitengela men. Two suspected poachers were yesterday arrested with 180 kg of game meat in Kajiado by a multi-agency team. Reports indicate that officers from the Kenya Wildlife Services (KWS) received a tip-off from members of the public and thus commenced investigations. Two suspects, David Musyimi and Mwendo Mumba were arrested during the operation and found in possession of zebra and dik-dik meat weighing about 180kg and half kg respectively. Yesterday, Health CS Mutahi Kagwe announced that passenger flights from India to Kenya were suspended for the next 14 days due to a surge in Covid-19 cases. A taxi driver, Victor Nzola Mutuku has pleaded guilty to unlawfully obtaining Covid-19 certificates for tourists. The taxi driver who operates at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport is to pay Sh10,000 or serve three months in jail.
