Kenya has announced 479 new COVID-19 cases after 4,043 samples were tested in the last 24 hours. The country’s caseload is now at 109,643. The cumulative tests so far conducted are 1,340,657 On a sad note, 7 patients have succumbed to the virus bringing the country’s death toll to 1,886. Consequently, 113 patients have recovered from the disease, 65 from the Home Based and Isolation Care while 48 are from various health facilities. The tally for  recoveries now stands at 87,736. National Assembly Majority leader and Kipipiri MP Amos Kimunya has dismissed claims of betrayal in the handshake as a plot by Tangatanga to scuttle the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI). 32-year-old Daniel Mwangi Wang’ondu, a businessman from Wendiga village in Nyeri was brutally murdered and his body discovered at his gate in the wee hours of January 1, 2021. The main suspect in his murder is his father, Stephen Wang’ondu Kinini who reportedly hired hitmen to kill his son as he was in love with his daughter-in-law. South Mugirango MP Sylvanus Osoro and Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala have surrendered to police over chaos witnessed across the country during by-elections. Thika Environment and Land Court (ELC) has been closed for two weeks after three staff members contracted COVID-19. Through a statement by the Judiciary, all urgent matters will now be handled in Murang’a court with more updates on the same to be given at a later date. “There are a total of 10 staff in this ELC court, all of whom have been identified, contacted and who must now go into self-quarantine with immediate effect. Kapenguria Member of Parliament (MP) Samuel Moroto was arrested on Sunday evening while visiting evicted families from the controversial Trans Nzoia scheme. The government has with immediate effect stopped the importation of maize from Uganda and Tanzania over high levels of aflatoxin. Kericho Law Court will be closed for two weeks due to structural faults, Acting Chief Justice Philomena Mwilu has directed. An accident in Mau Narok, Nakuru County involving a lorry that lost control has left six pedestrians dead on the spot. According to reports on social media, the pedestrians were on their way home after a day’s work when a lorry veered off the road, lost control, and rammed on the six of them. Nominated Senator Millicent Omanga claims that her personal security has been withdrawn without any form of explanation. Taking to Twitter, Omanga castigated the move adding that she is entitled to government protection as a legislator. Joshua Kuttuny, the Jubilee Party Deputy Secretary-General has revealed that over 20 MCAs who went against the party’s decision and voted against the BBI bill at the county assemblies will be punished.
