A robbery at Landi Mawe, Industrial Area on Tuesday night left one police officer identified as Mark Kirui dead. Reports indicate that the officer was seated in the car with his girlfriend when four gunmen approached and demanded cash and valuables. The officer who was in civilian at the time and unarmed confronted his attackers which led to him being shot on the head and died on the spot. Kenya has announced 141 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours. This was after a sample size of 3,571 was tested. The country’s caseload is now at 100,193. The cumulative tests done so far stand at  1,162,491. From the new COVID-19 cases, 121 are Kenyans while 20 are foreigners. Also, the youngest is a one-year-old baby while the oldest is 87. On a sad note, 6 patients have succumbed to the virus in the last 24 hours bringing the death toll to 1,750. Ugandan troops have finally withdrawn from the residence of opposition leader Bobi Wine hence putting an end to his house arrest. According to Reuters, the military had already moved out of Wine’s residence in Kampala although the latter is yet to come out and show himself in the public. The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has called for investigations into the allegations leveled by former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko on the 2017 post-election protests. Interior CS Fred Matiang’i has announced that Kapedo will be declared a Disturbed area following the recent cases of insecurity in the region. Teachers’ Unions have threatened to withdraw their staff from Kapedo and Baringo areas over increased insecurity. A road accident along the Siaya-Kisumu road has left four people dead on the spot. The accident took place at Sigana area just a few meters before reaching Ng’iya in Siaya County. This has ideally been confirmed by Siaya OCPD Ben Chris who revealed that the accident was between a motorbike and a bus which was headed to Kisumu from Siaya. Detectives have arrested 29-year-old Nicholas Luka who allegedly butchered his friend and cremated his body over Sh4,000 debt. Through a Tweet, the DCI revealed that Luka was the main suspect in the murder of his friend which took place on January 13, 2021.
