Kenya has announced 199 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours. This was from a sample size of 2,416. The country’s caseload is now at 88,579. Through a statement, Health CS Mutahi Kagwe indicated that of the positive cases, 177 are Kenyans while 22 are foreigners. Ideally, 123 are males and 76 females. University of Nairobi (UoN) students have blocked Uhuru Highway as they protested the move by the Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) to slash student loans. The students who were chanting while carrying placards also blocked the University Way leading to a traffic snarl as motorists looked on. The enhancement of COVID-19 rules in primary and secondary schools is set to cost Sh400 billion, architects have revealed. According to the Architectural Association of Kenya (AAK), enhancing the COVID-19 rules will require certain changes including the construction of additional classrooms to accommodate more students ahead of January 4, 2021 reopening. Kenyatta University students, staffers have escaped unhurt after the bus they were traveling in lost control and rolled severally on the highway. Kenya has announced 1,253 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours. This was from a sample size of 10,170. The country’s caseload is now at 86,383. Embattled Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has adopted new tactics to stop his impending impeachment that is to be debated today. Reports indicate that the governor flew out at least 40 MCAs to Mombasa for a holiday as a way of countering the impeachment debate. An attack by Al Shabaab militia in Garissa Police Base has left one police officer dead and another nursing serious injuries. The militia attacked Amuma police patrol base in Fafi, Garissa county where officers were manning and doing patrol. The militia were reported to be heavily armed and took on the police, firing for approximately 10 minutes before escaping. One officer was shot dead and the other seriously injured.
