The Buffalo Bills acquired Amari Cooper in a trade Tuesday with the Cleveland Browns, adding a true No. 1 wide receiver for star quarterback Josh Allen. The Bills received Cooper and a 2025 sixth-round draft pick for a 2025 third-round pick and a seventh-round selection in 2026. Cooper, 30, fills the No. 1 receiver void for the Bills that was opened when Buffalo traded Stefon Diggs to the Houston Texans before the season. The Bills completed the deal hours after their AFC East rivals, the New York Jets, made their own blockbuster trade for a wide receiver when they acquired…

The UN’s humanitarian office has called for an investigation into an Israeli air strike that killed 23 people in northern Lebanon on Monday. Spokesman Jeremy Laurence said the strike, on the Christian-majority village of Aitou, raised “real concerns” with respect to international humanitarian law. Laurence said that 12 women and two children were understood to be among the dead from the bombing, which destroyed a residential building that had been recently rented out to a family displaced from the south. Rescue workers were still pulling bodies from the rubble in Aitou on Tuesday – far from the focus of the…
A former police officer in the US state of Kentucky is to go on trial for a third time over the death of Breonna Taylor, a black woman shot dead in her own home in 2020 during a botched raid. Brett Hankison, 47, was part of a group of officers in the city of Louisville who broke into Taylor’s apartment on 13 March that year. Some 32 shots were fired at Taylor and her boyfriend, who survived the encounter. Taylor’s death sparked racial injustice rallies across the US. Mr Hankison has twice before avoided a conviction for allegedly violating Taylor’s…
The Pentagon has announced that more than 800 veterans who were thrown out of the US military over their sexual orientation will receive honourable discharges. Under a policy known as “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” that was in effect from 1994 to 2011, thousands of openly gay, lesbian and bisexual service members were separated from the military. Many were given less-than-honourable discharges, which blocked them from receiving veteran benefits such as healthcare, student loans and tuition assistance. A little more than a year ago, Defence Secretary Lloyd Austin had the military begin reviewing veterans’ records to possibly upgrade discharge statuses. In…

India and Canada have expelled their top envoys along with other diplomats as Justin Trudeau’s government accused Indian agents of involvement in “homicides, extortion and violent acts” on Canadian soil. Canadian police said the criminal activity had particularly targeted supporters of the pro-Khalistan movement which seeks a separate homeland for Sikhs in India. Officials said a dozen of agents had been involved, but did not confirm if they were directly linked to the June 2023 murder of Sikh separatist leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar in Canada. Delhi rejected the allegations as “preposterous”. Relations between Delhi and Ottawa have been strained since…
French politician Marine Le Pen has hit back against charges of illegal funding by Euro deputies from her far-right National Rally (RN) party. She told a court in Paris on Monday that parliamentary assistants paid for by the Brussels assembly were naturally involved in politics – because that was what drew them to the job in the first place. So, she claimed, it was a false distinction to claim that they should be working solely for the parliament. “Assistants work for their deputies, enlarging their ideas,” Le Pen said. “Just look at the number of deputies who started out as…
Lilly Ledbetter, whose name graces an equal pay law in the US, has died aged 86. CBS, the BBC’s news partner in the US, quoted her children as saying she died peacefully on Saturday surrounded by family and loved ones. “Our mother lived an extraordinary life,” added a family statement. Ms Ledbetter’s activism led to the first bill signed into law by Barack Obama after he became US president in 2009. The Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Restoration Act made it easier for workers to sue after discovering they were being discriminated through pay. Mr Obama said that the law sent…

Monarchists in Australia have accused the state premiers of “insulting” King Charles as they will not be present at a reception welcoming him to the country. The King’s visit, which begins later this week, will include a reception in Canberra, but the six state premiers – of New South Wales, Victoria, Queensland, Western Australia, South Australia and Tasmania – have said they’re unable to attend. “I find it insulting,” said Bev McArthur of the Australian Monarchist League. “They should take just off their republican hats, make the short trip to Canberra, say ‘hi and thank for you coming to Australia’.”…
Three petitioners Monday filed a case seeking to block senate from hearing the impeachment of Kericho Governor Erick Mutai. Ronald Kibet, George Muiruri and Christopher Kimiti argue that the Senate lacks Jurisdiction to hear and determine the impeachment motion as it failed to garner the support of at least 2/3 of all the members of the County Assembly of Kericho as currently constituted. “The Speaker of the County Assembly of Kericho was so misinformed in his decision to interpret that the 31 votes in support of the impeachment motion was equivalent 2/3 of all the 47 members of the Assembly,”…
Mombasa County Lands Executive Hussein Mohamed was Monday granted a Shl million anticipatory bond with strict conditions. This is as he waits to know whether he will be charged over the abduction and gang rape of a blogger. High Court Judge Wendy Kagendo ruled that Hussein’s application for anticipatory bail to prevent his arrest and detention was valid. “Having looked at the entire application, I find that it has merit. SpaceX pulled off the boldest test flight yet of its enormous Starship rocket on Sunday, catching the returning booster back at the launch pad with mechanical arms. A jubilant Elon Musk called it “science fiction without the fiction part.” Towering almost 400 feet (121 meters), the empty Starship blasted off at sunrise from the southern tip of Texas near the Mexican border. It arced over the Gulf of Mexico like the four Starships before it that ended up being destroyed, either soon after liftoff or while ditching into the sea. The previous one in June had been the most successful…
The US says it will deploy a high-altitude anti-missile system and a US military crew to Israel to help bolster its air defences after a missile attack from Iran earlier this month. A Pentagon statement said President Joe Biden had ordered the Terminal High-Altitude Area Defense (Thaad) battery and its crew be sent “to defend Israel”. Iran launched almost 200 ballistic missiles towards Israel on 1 October. The Israeli military said most were intercepted, but a number struck central and southern Israel. Israel has not yet said how it will respond to the attack, but Defence Minister Yoav Gallant has…
