Police in Ruiru, Kiambu County, are investigating a murder incident in which a bar attendant allegedly stabbed a man to death following a dispute over a small debt.

Detectives said the incident occurred in the early hours of Thursday at an entertainment joint in the Kihunguro area.

It is reported that at around 2:20 a.m., the deceased—an unidentified middle-aged man—approached a bar waitress, demanding payment of a Sh10 debt she allegedly owed him.

A confrontation ensued, during which the waitress reportedly picked up an empty spirit bottle, broke it into two pieces, and used it to stab the man on the right side of the neck.

The injured man attempted to run out of the club to seek help but collapsed a few metres away and died on the spot.

Police officers from Ruiru Police Station, accompanied by Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) personnel and Scenes of Crime officers from Thika, visited and processed the scene.

The body of the deceased was moved to City Mortuary, where it awaits post-mortem examination and identification.

The suspect was taken into custody as investigations into the incident continue.
Meanwhile, Police in Gem Wagai, Siaya County, arrested a 38-year-old man in connection with the suspected murder of his wife following a domestic dispute.

The incident came to light on Thursday after it was reported that 34-year-old Josephine Atieno Ochieng had succumbed to injuries while undergoing treatment at Siaya County Referral Hospital.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the deceased had attended a burial on March 19, 2026, and returned home later that day at around 4:00 p.m. allegedly intoxicated.

It is reported that her husband questioned her over her condition, leading to a confrontation.
During the altercation, the suspect is alleged to have assaulted her on the head and cheek using a sharp object.

The victim was initially taken to Merirosa Health Centre before being referred to Siaya County Level IV Hospital, where she died on March 25.

The body was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy.

The suspect has since been apprehended and is expected to be arraigned in court as investigations continue.
