Barclay Goodrow is a Canadian professional ice hockey forward and alternate captain for the San Jose Sharks of the National Hockey League (NHL).
Born on February 26, 1993, in Toronto, Ontario, he stands 6 feet 2 inches tall and weighs approximately 210 pounds.
Goodrow is recognized for his versatility, strong two-way play, leadership qualities, physical presence, and ability to contribute in all situations, including penalty killing and faceoffs.
Undrafted out of junior hockey, he has carved out a successful NHL career through hard work and reliability, winning two Stanley Cups with the Tampa Bay Lightning.
Siblings
Barclay was born into an athletic family as the son of John and Janice Goodrow.
He has at least one older sister named Martha, who played rugby at the University of Western Ontario, where she excelled as a player for the Western Mustangs women’s team.
His father, John, played football for three years at the University of Toronto, helping instill a strong athletic foundation in the children.
Career
Goodrow played five seasons of junior hockey with the Brampton Battalion (later North Bay Battalion) of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL), serving as captain in his final years.

Despite going undrafted in the NHL, he signed with the San Jose Sharks as a free agent in 2014 after impressing at their development camp.
He split time between the NHL and the American Hockey League (AHL) affiliates, notably helping the San Jose Barracuda in the playoffs.
He made his NHL debut in 2014 and gradually earned a full-time role with the Sharks, highlighted by a series-clinching overtime goal in the 2019 playoffs.
In February 2020, he was traded to the Tampa Bay Lightning, where he became a key depth forward and contributed to back-to-back Stanley Cup championships in 2020 and 2021.
Goodrow later joined the New York Rangers via a trade of his signing rights in 2021, serving as an alternate captain and bringing veteran leadership.
After being waived and re-claimed by the Sharks following the 2023-24 season, he returned to the organization where his professional career began.
Known for his gritty style and playoff performance, Goodrow has played over 700 regular-season NHL games, accumulating around 70 goals and 119 assists.
Accolades
Goodrow’s most notable achievements include winning the Stanley Cup with the Tampa Bay Lightning in 2020 and 2021.
In junior hockey, he earned the Brampton Battalion’s most sportsmanlike player award and was nominated for OHL awards such as the Red Tilson Trophy.
At the AHL level, he was selected to the 2016 AHL All-Star Game and named AHL Player of the Week.
With the Rangers, he was a co-recipient of the Players’ Player Award.
Internationally, he won a silver medal with Team Canada at the 2010 World U-17 Hockey Challenge.
