Baringo County assembly members in office between 2013 and 2017 purchased a wooden chopping board at Sh20,000.
In a report by the assembly Public Accounts and Investment Committee, the board was supplied by Brandhouse Solutions. Upon delivery the company received payment, without going through the right channels.
The majority leader Lawi Kipchumba called upon the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) to investigate the matter which he referred to a “joke.”
“There are a lot of shoddy jobs, stalled projects and misappropriation of funds at the assembly. We are calling on Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission to come and follow the people who were here before because some items such as a chopping board was procured at a price that would cost a whole tree. Selling us a log of two feet high at such a cost is a joke,” said Mr Kipchumba.

Nominated MCA Saphina Chelagat on her part said “those responsible for the purchase should be surcharged the amount in excess of the market price at the time.”
MCAs have also complained that Sh17 million was used to renovate the assembly canteen and restaurant.
