Police in Mtwapa, Kilifi County, are investigating an alleged stealing by servant incident after a Belgian tourist reportedly lost 5,000 Euros, (approximately Sh752,000), from his residence at Villa Marina Apartments in Mtwapa Township.

According to the police, the complainant, a Belgian national who arrived in Kenya on May 26 for a 14-day holiday, had left the apartment on Wednesday morning together with his girlfriend, to shop at Naivas Supermarket in Mtwapa.

Police said the couple had left behind their househelp, who was reportedly carrying out routine household chores at the time.

The tourist later returned to the residence alone and found the house deserted. Attempts to contact the househelp were unsuccessful as her mobile phone had reportedly been switched off.

Upon inspecting the house, he discovered that the master bedroom had been left unlocked and drawers had been ransacked.

Cash amounting to 5,000 Euros and a bunch of keys were found missing.

Police visited the scene and commenced investigations.

Police said CCTV cameras installed at the apartment captured footage considered crucial to the ongoing investigations.

No arrest or recovery had been made by Friday amid efforts to trace the woman.

Meanwhile, police in Bondo Sub-County, Siaya County, have launched a search operation for a 23-year-old man who is suspected to have drowned while bathing in River Yala.

Locals said Kennedy Odhiambo Airo, went to bathe in River Yala on the evening of May 27 at around 6pm when he accidentally slipped into the fast-moving waters.

Police said the victim’s clothes and mobile phone were later found abandoned on the riverbank by relatives who had gone searching for him after he failed to return home.

Efforts by family members and members of the public to rescue or trace him were unsuccessful, prompting them to report the matter to police.

Authorities said a joint search operation involving police officers and local residents is ongoing in an effort to retrieve the body.
