Police in Nyamira confirmed the identity of a body exhumed from a shallow grave in Nyamauro Village as that of a missing medical officer who disappeared last month.
Aauthorities said the remains—initially recovered from a shallow dugout pit in Nyakenimo Sub-location—have been identified as belonging to Duke Nyang’au Obasancho, a 41-year-old Gusii man.
He had been missing.
The identification was carried out by the National Registration Bureau (NRB), bringing a breakthrough in the case of a missing person reported on February 23, 2026.
According to police, the deceased hailed from Manga Sub-county, Kemera Location in Nyamira County.
He was serving as a Medical Superintendent and Community Health Nursing Officer at Nyamusi Sub-County Hospital at the time of his disappearance.
Preliminary findings indicate that the body had a penetrating neck wound, suggesting possible foul play. Investigators believe he was killed and secretly buried in the shallow grave.
The remains have since been preserved at Nyamira County Referral Hospital mortuary, where a post-mortem examination is expected to be conducted.
Police have intensified investigations into the incident, treating it as a suspected murder.
Authorities are working to establish the circumstances surrounding his death and to identify those responsible.
The case has sparked concern among residents and healthcare professionals, given the victim’s role in the local health sector.
Elsewhere, a 65-year-old man was shot dead by suspected armed bandits during a late-night raid in Kaibachal Village, Aroo Sub-county, Turkana.
The incident, reported at Katilu Police Station on Wednesday, March 25, at around 8:20 a.m., is said to have occurred the previous night at approximately 11:40 p.m.
According to police reports, four armed assailants stormed the homestead of Losekon Walakori Lokuruka and demanded livestock, specifically a fat sheep.
The victim reportedly pleaded with the attackers, but they shot him at close range, with one of the assailants firing multiple bullets to his head.
After the killing, the gang proceeded to the livestock shed, stole one sheep, and fled towards the Napusinyen area.
Authorities suspect the attackers may be linked to banditry activities common in the region, though investigations are ongoing.
Due to poor road conditions, police have faced challenges accessing the remote scene, but efforts were underway to process and document the area as investigations continue.
The incident highlights ongoing security concerns in parts of Turkana County, where cases of armed raids and livestock theft have remained a persistent challenge.
