Police in Bungoma County launched investigations following the discovery of the body of a two-year-old boy in a shallow well in Bungoma West Sub-County.

Detectives responded to Makhonge Village, where they found the lifeless body of the minor floating in a shallow water-filled well.

The body was retrieved and found dressed in a brown jacket, while a pair of black shorts and one black gumboot were lying near the well, with the other gumboot inside the water.

A preliminary examination revealed injuries, including bruises on the right eye and lower lip, as well as blood noted at the anal area, raising suspicion of possible foul play.

Investigators established that the child had last been seen at around 5:00 p.m. while herding cows in the company of a 12-year-old boy on March 18.

Police also arrested a 23-year-old man who had been seen in the vicinity, to assist with investigations.

The body was moved to Bungoma County Mortuary, where it awaits a post-mortem examination.

Authorities say investigations are ongoing to establish the exact circumstances surrounding the child’s death.

Elsewhere, police in Nairobi are investigating a tragic incident in which a nine-year-old boy died after suspected electrocution in Kaloleni Estate.

The child was pronounced dead on arrival at a local hospital.

Police said the body had visible burn injuries on the right hand and under the left arm near the armpit after the incident in their house on March 19.

The body was later moved to Nairobi Funeral Home, where it is awaiting a post-mortem examination.

Elsewhere, police in Kisumu County are investigating a sudden death reported in Nyakach Sub-County.

Police said the body of the deceased, identified as Elly Otieno Okeyo, 51, was found lying lifeless on his bed inside his house.

The discovery was made by his mother who had gone to check on him after not seeing him since March 16, 2026.

The woman said she noticed houseflies around the window and found the door locked from the inside. With the help of others, they forcibly gained entry and found the deceased unresponsive on the bed.

Police officers visited the scene and confirmed that there were no visible external injuries on the body.

The body was later moved to Bethlehem Morgue, where it is awaiting a post-mortem examination to establish the cause of death.
