Police in Nairobi launched investigations after the body of an unidentified man was discovered inside a manhole in Kawangware.
The incident, reported at Muthangari Police Station on Wednesday, March 25 was brought to the attention of authorities after a routine sewer inspection turned tragic.
According to preliminary reports, a man had been called by the wife of a landlord to check on a blocked sewer line at a residential property in the area.
While attempting to unblock one of the manholes, the worker made the shocking discovery of a body inside.
Police visited and processed the scene and confirmed the same.
The body, described as that of an unknown male adult aged about 40 years, was found in a sitting position inside the manhole. Police noted that there were no visible external injuries on the body.
The remains were retrieved and later moved to Nairobi City Mortuary, where they await identification and a post-mortem examination to determine the cause of death.
Authorities are appealing to members of the public who may have information regarding a missing person to report to the nearest police station as investigations continue.
Elsewhere, police in Bondo are investigating a suspected murder following the death of a herdsman after an alleged assault linked to a dispute over destroyed crops.
A man had visited his rental house at Nango Trading Centre in Uyawi Sub-location on Tuesday night at about 9:00 p.m., where he found his herdsman, identified only as Simba, lying on a bed with a fresh cut wound to the head.
He rushed the injured man to Uyawi Sub-County Hospital, where he received treatment and was discharged in fair condition.
However, on Wednesday morning, the landlord found him unconscious and again rushed him to the same facility. Due to the severity of his condition, he was referred to Bondo Sub-County Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
The body was moved to the hospital mortuary pending a post-mortem examination.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the deceased may have been attacked by a suspect also a resident of Nango.
The alleged assault is said to have occurred after goats the deceased was herding strayed into and destroyed crops belonging to the suspect.
Authorities have urged residents to resolve disputes through lawful means and avoid resorting to violence.
