Inspector General of Police, Joseph Boinnet has warned of plans to ambush convoys transporting election materials from the polling stations to the tallying centres.

Boinnet said that the national police service has information that there are plans to disrupt the transportation ballot boxes and the names of the people behind the supposed plans.

“As the voting exercise comes to an end, ballot papers will be transported to Constituency Tallying Centres, for further tabulation. We are however getting disturbing information that some individuals are plotting to attack these convoys in some counties in order to undermine the electoral exercise,” read an official statement from the police.”

“We wish to warn that anyone attempting to attack these convoys that are under heavy guard, will only have themselves to blame in the event stern action is taken by officers.”

IEBC Chairman, Wafula Chebukati has in the meantime postponed elections in Kisumu, Siaya, Migori and Homabay due to insecurity.

Chebukati has pushed the elections to Saturday, 28 October.
