Boniface Murage Given 3-Month Suspended Sentence For Trying To Smuggle His Child From KNH

Resident Magistrate Muthoni Nzibe has handed Boniface Murage a three month suspended sentence after his bill at the Kenyatta National Hospital had been settled.

The court gave him a suspended sentence which means that he would not go to prison immediately but would be under state scrutiny to ensure that he does not commit an offense. If he commits an offense Murage would have to face the three month custodial sentence.

Bonface Murage Wangechi, 22, was arraigned before Milimani Law Courts on Monday and charged with attempting to smuggle his daughter out of hospital using a carrier bag.

The prosecution told the court that Mr. Murage was intercepted on February 16, by the hospital security guards while leaving the facility carrying something in a blue carrier bag. After a search, it was discovered that he was carrying a baby.

Investigations revealed that the baby was a patient at the hospital and the man was attempting to avoid paying a one-month fee that accrued.

Appearing before Resident Magistrate Muthoni Nzibe, Murage pleaded guilty, saying circumstances forced him to attempt escaping with the daughter.

He told the court that he didn’t have the money to settle accrued hospital bill.

Embakasi East MP Babu Owino offered to clear the bill,  TV personality Larry Madowo helped  Murage to get a lawyer who took up the matter pro bono
