Tragedy struck a training team when one of their football players died after he had been hit by a ball in the chest at the Loreto Girls’ High School playing ground, Kiambu County.

The 14-year-old boy was among a group that was training for a football team of under-17s when he was struck by a ball in the chest and developed sudden breathing challenges, police and witnesses said.

Eugene Mwangi was a grade nine pupil at Limuru Mission Primary School.

He was rushed to Tigoni Level Four hospital for medical attention, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Witnesses said a fellow player hit a ball hard in an effort to clear it, and it struck the deceased in the abdominal cavity area.

He developed heavy breathing problems and fell unconscious.

The body with no physical visible injuries was preserved at the same facility’s morgue pending autopsy after the September 20, 2025 incident.

In Pan Paper, Lugari area, a body of a man was found floating on Nzoia River after drowning.

The decomposed body of Erick Auma, 21, was found in the river after suspected drowning, police said. The body was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy.

Police want to understand if the man was killed and the body thrown into the water or if he drowned. They want to also know how he drowned, if any.

Elsewhere in Thika, one Joseph Njoroge, 62 was found dead in his house with blood oozing from his nose and mouth.

It was established that the deceased had been battling a stroke for the last four years and had been receiving medication.

The body with no visible injuries was moved to the General kago morgue pending post-mortem, police said.
