Boy drowns in family farm dam in Makueni

A two-and-a-half-year-old boy drowned in a dam within his family farm in Illingoni village, Mavindini Location, Makueni County.
The incident was reported on Monday, August 24, 2026.
The deceased child was reportedly fetching water from the dam when he fell into the water. His mother managed to rescue him and rushed him to Mavindini Level 3 Hospital for emergency medical assistance.
However, the boy was pronounced dead by the medical officer on duty.
Police officers from Mavindini Police Station visited the scene, which was processed and documented as part of investigations into the incident.
The body was subsequently handled in accordance with police procedures as investigations continued into the circumstances surrounding the drowning.
And police in Tharaka South, Tharaka Nithi County, are investigating the death of a 60-year-old man whose body was found floating in River Kathita.
The incident was reported at Marimanti Police Station at about 5:35pm on Monday, August 24, 2026.
Police officers from Marimanti Police Station, accompanied by Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) officers from Tharaka South, visited the scene and retrieved the body.
The deceased was later identified as Peter Kithamburu, 60, a resident of Kaimuuru village.
Police said there were no visible external injuries on the body.
The scene was processed and documented before the body was moved to Marimanti Hospital Mortuary, where it was preserved pending a postmortem examination to establish the cause of death.
Police investigations into the circumstances surrounding the man’s death are ongoing.
Elsewhere, police in Kirinyaga Central are investigating the death of a 64-year-old man whose body was found hanging inside his house in Kiandieri B Village, Kimandi Location.
The body of David Muriuki Gachie, who lived alone, was discovered on Monday, August 24, 2026, after a passerby noticed an unusual number of house flies coming from his homestead.
The passerby contacted Gachie’s brother, who was nearby, and asked him to check on the deceased.
According to a police report, the two found the house locked from outside with a wooden stick. Upon opening it, they discovered Gachie’s body hanging from a truss in the dining room, with a rope tied around his neck.
Police officers from Kerugoya Police Station and Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) officers visited the scene and commenced investigations.
Preliminary observations indicated that the house appeared disturbed, raising the possibility that a struggle may have taken place before Gachie’s death.
Police said Gachie had last been seen about a week earlier by his brother, who reportedly saw him entering his house.
No suicide note had been found and investigators had not established any land dispute involving the deceased at the time of the report.
Scenes-of-crime personnel from Kirinyaga County processed and documented the scene. The body, which had no visible external physical injuries, was subsequently moved to Kerugoya County Referral Hospital mortuary pending a postmortem examination.
The circumstances surrounding Gachie’s death remain under investigation, with police awaiting the autopsy findings to help establish the cause and manner of death.
