Maritzburg United settled for a 1-1 draw with Black Leopards in the South Africa’s Premier Soccer League at Harry Gwala Stadium Wednesday night.

Harambee Stars defender Brian Onyango Mandela opened the scoring for the hosts with a thumping header off a free kick in the 38th minute but Zambian Musonda Mwape responded for the coach Dylan Kerr’s side from the spot in the 40th minute.

The game was Kerr’s second in charge since joining the Leopards from Kenyan champions Gor Mahia early November.

The Englishman’s first outing was a 1-0 loss to Bidvest Wits. The Lidodaduvha remain rock bottom in the 16-team league after 13 rounds of games with just 10 points from 2 wins, 4 draws and 7 loses.

More tough days are expected ahead for Kerr and his charges as they face Mamelodi Sundowns, who were held to a frustrating barren draw on Tuesday by Baroka with coach Pitso Mosimane blasting their goalkeeper for time wasting.

Onyango’s Maritzburg United are 13th in the standings and have only won once, drawn eight times and lost thrice in 13 games.

Their coach Fadlu Davids admitted that his side is doing badly in terms of scoring.

“We are doing everything right but putting the ball in the back of the net. That’s what we’ve got to work on. We have to be more clinical and aggressive in front of goal.”

Mandela remains a mainstay for both the club and country. The former Tusker FC stopper was key the Harambee Stars qualification for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations for the first time in 15 years.
