Burale sues ex-wife and Alex Mwakideu for Sh20 million over YouTube interview

Motivational speaker Robert Burale has sued her former wife, Rozina Mwakideu, and media personality Alex Mwakideu.

Rozina and Alex, who are siblings, have been named as the first and second defendants, respectively.

Burale is seeking Sh20 million in damages for alleged defamation arising from an interview titled “My Biggest Mistake Was Marrying Robert Burale”, published on a YouTube channel belonging to Alex.

The case was filed at the Milimani Chief Magistrates’ Court.

Burale described himself as a cleric of national repute and claims that the interview, which premiered on October 4, 2025, on the Alex Mwakideu TV YouTube channel, portrayed him as manipulative, hypocritical, a swindler, and homosexual.

He argued that the statements were false, malicious, and intended to tarnish his name, reputation, and integrity as a pastor and mentor.

Burale further accuses Alex of professional negligence, saying the media personality failed to verify the allegations or seek his response before airing the content.

He also faults him for allegedly encouraging viewers to “share widely,” which he says intensified the spread of defamatory claims.

The court papers cite several time-stamped remarks from the interview, claiming they lowered Burale’s reputation among right-thinking members of society, subjected him to ridicule and mental anguish, and jeopardised his ministry and source of livelihood.

Burale sought a mandatory and permanent injunction compelling the removal of the video and related posts, a public apology published widely and an appeal for deletion of all re-uploads. The preacher also seeks general and aggravated damages totalling Sh20 million, costs of the suit, and any other relief the court deems fit.

The suit also references an October 7, 2025 segment on Radio 47, where Mwakideu allegedly distanced himself from some of the statements made during the interview.

The matter has been filed under the court’s fast-track procedure, and the defendants have yet to file their responses.
