Cabinet Approves Sh1.1 Billion Electric Cooking Programme for Four Counties

The Cabinet has approved an electric cooking programme worth $8.8 million (approximately Sh1.1 billion) to support the adoption of 100,000 electric cooking appliances in four counties.
The programme will benefit households in Nairobi, Kiambu, Machakos and Kajiado counties.
In a dispatch following a Cabinet meeting chaired by President William Ruto at State House, the government said the initiative would promote cleaner cooking, reduce household exposure to harmful smoke and accelerate the transition to modern energy.
Ruto has been championing clean cooking as a key pillar of Africa’s green transition.
Kenya aims to achieve universal household access to clean cooking by 2028 through the Kenya National Cooking Transition Strategy.
