The Confederation of African Football (CAF) boss Ahmad allegedly spent Ksh10 million to take 15 Muslim federation heads to Mecca for Umrah.

CAF’s compliance officer has maintained that the money came from Ahmad’s pocket but Insideworldfootbal reports that they have proof that CAF footed the bill in violation of their laws.

The CAF disciplinary articles state that: “Anyone who offers promises or grants an unjustified advantage to a body of CAF, a match official, a player or an official on behalf of himself or a third party in an attempt to incite it or him to violate CAF Regulations will be sanctioned.” Those sanctions range from a $25,000 fine to a life ban.

Ahmad also wired $20,000 to bank accounts of federation heads, apparently to buy their support, according to the report.

The Malagasy came to power in 2016 after flooring Cameroon’s Issa Hayatou, who had served for over three decades. His election was to herald a new era of transparency and better governance at the Cairo based body.

Former Liberia FA president Musa Bility recently resigned as a member of the CAF Exco citing frustrations from Ahmad who he branded as authoritarian.

Bility also questioned several financial undertakings by CAF which he deemed suspect.
