Cape Media appoints June Ndinya acting CEO

Cape Media, the parent company of TV47, Radio 47 and Cape Studios, has appointed June Akinyi Ndinya as acting Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Keneth Kadzomba Kazungu as acting Editor-in-Chief following the exit of their predecessors.

The Board of Directors announced the leadership changes on Saturday, October 10, 2026, saying the appointments would take effect immediately as the company begins the process of recruiting substantive office holders.

Ndinya, who previously served as Cape Media’s Creative Director, takes over as acting CEO following the departure of Mwenda Njoka, who headed the company.

According to the board, her appointment was informed by her leadership capabilities, experience in the media industry and understanding of the company’s strategic direction.

In her new role, Ndinya will oversee Cape Media’s day-to-day operations and provide overall leadership during the transition period.

She is expected to work closely with the management team and staff to ensure business continuity, implement the company’s strategic priorities and maintain service delivery to audiences, clients, partners and other stakeholders.

In a separate appointment, Kazungu, who served as Managing Editor, has been named acting Editor-in-Chief following the exit of Simon Macharia Gachuru.

Kazungu will oversee the company’s editorial operations pending the recruitment of a substantive office holder.

The board said he brings extensive experience in journalism and editorial leadership, which it expects will help maintain stability in the newsroom during the transition.

His responsibilities will include ensuring that Cape Media’s journalism adheres to the principles of accuracy, fairness, balance, integrity and accountability.

He will also be tasked with safeguarding the credibility and reputation of the company’s media brands as the organisation navigates the leadership changes.

The board expressed confidence in Kazungu’s experience and knowledge of the media landscape, saying his appointment would help sustain the company’s editorial standards.

It also acknowledged the contributions of the outgoing executives, thanking Njoka for his leadership and role in guiding Cape Media through a period of growth in Kenya’s media industry.

Gachuru was similarly recognised for his contribution to the development of the company’s editorial assets, with the board wishing both outgoing executives well in their future endeavours.

In a memo signed by Board of Directors representative Farida Karoney, Cape Media reaffirmed its commitment to a transparent and well-governed transition process.

The board said the changes were aimed at safeguarding the company’s interests, maintaining its strategic direction and upholding its commitment to excellence in journalism and media services.

The appointments come as Cape Media prepares to recruit substantive replacements for the two senior positions, with Ndinya and Kazungu expected to steer the company’s executive and editorial functions in the interim.
