Two carjackers have been shot dead by police in Nakuru while on a mission to rob a lorry on the Gilgil–Nakuru Highway. Four have managed to escape but the police are on their trails.

The six had carjacked a lorry ferrying a consignment of breakfast cereals but were intercepted at section 58 by police acting on a tip off from members of the public.

The six were on board a salon car, and manged to hijack the lorry, took the key from the drive and drove off.

“The driver reported the matter at Kikopey Police Station and the number plate of the lorry circulated. The driver was on his way to Nakuru from Nairobi,” Barua said.

Nakuru County Police Commander Hassan Rashid Barua says that they recovered an AK47 rifle from the suspects.

The suspects are thought to be part of a gang that has been carjacking long distance trucks along the highway.

The bodies of the two felled suspects were moved to Nakuru County Hospital Mortuary.
