    Caroline Peters is a renowned German actress born on September 7, 1971, in Mainz, Germany.

    She has established herself as a prominent figure in theater, film, and television, known for her versatile performances that blend comedy and drama.

    Peters grew up initially in Mainz before moving to Cologne at the age of eight, where she was immersed in a culturally rich environment fostered by her parents.

    Her father, Uwe Henrik Peters, was a psychiatrist, and her mother, Johanne Peters (née Schuchardt, 1934–2003), was a literary scholar.

    In addition to her acting career, Peters debuted as a novelist in 2024 with the book Ein anderes Leben and has been involved in voice acting for audio plays.

    Growing up in Cologne, Peters and her sister shared a passion for creativity, often creating their own performances inspired by the freethinking environment provided by their parents.

    Career

    Peters began her professional journey after training at the University of Music and Performing Arts Saarland in Saarbrücken.

    Her early career took off with engagements at prestigious theaters, starting at the Schaubühne am Lehniner Platz in Berlin in 1995 under director Andrea Breth.

    She later joined the Deutsches Schauspielhaus in Hamburg in 1999, collaborating extensively with director René Pollesch on innovative productions like Cappuccetto Rosso, Die Prater-Trilogie, and www-slums 1–7, which blended classical repertory with performative styles.

    Peters has been an ensemble member at the Schaubühne Berlin since 2021 and the Burgtheater in Vienna since 2024, where she has delivered standout performances in roles such as Buhlschaft in Jedermann at the Salzburg Festival in 2020, Medea in a 2019 adaptation by Simon Stone, and Klytaimnestra in Die Orestie in 2017.

    Her theater work spans classics by Shakespeare, Ibsen, and Chekhov, as well as contemporary pieces by Elfriede Jelinek and Roland Schimmelpfennig.

    In film and television, she gained widespread recognition for portraying police commissioner Sophie Haas in the satirical series Mord mit Aussicht from 2008 to 2014, appearing in 39 episodes.

    Notable film credits include Walk on Water (2004), Der Vorname (2018), Der Nachname (2022), and What a Feeling (2024).

    She has also starred in TV films like Contergan (2007) and series such as Kolleginnen (2022–2023), showcasing her ability to navigate between comedic and dramatic roles effortlessly.

    Accolades

    Peters has earned numerous prestigious awards throughout her career, reflecting her excellence in acting across theater, film, and television.

    In 2007, she received the Adolf-Grimme-Preis for her role in the TV film Arnies Welt.

    She won the Bavarian Television Award for Best Actress in a Series in 2013 for Mord mit Aussicht – Die Venus von Hengasch, after a nomination in the same category in 2011.

    Peters has been nominated multiple times for the Nestroy Theater Award, including Best Supporting Actress in 2006 for Höllenangst, Best Actress in 2011 for Professor Bernhardi, and again in 2015 for John Gabriel Borkman.

    In 2012, she was honored with the Ulrich-Wildgruber-Preis for her outstanding acting performance and nominated for a Bambi Award as National Actress for Mord mit Aussicht.

    She was named Actress of the Year in 2016 for her work in John Gabriel Borkman by the critic poll in Theater heute, having previously won the title in an earlier year as well.

    Additionally, in 2015, she received the GRAZIA Best Inspiration Award in the TV category.

    Her collaborative works with René Pollesch, such as www-slums 1–7, earned invitations to the Theatertreffen in Berlin and the Mühlheim Dramatist Prize.

    Since 2018, she has been a member of the German Film Academy, and in 2024, she joined the European Film Academy.
