Casual labourer dies after stone falls from construction site, hits him in Naivasha

A 32-year-old casual labourer died after he was struck on the head by a stone that accidentally fell from the rooftop of a building under construction in Naivasha, Nakuru County.

The incident occurred on Wednesday, August 26, at Kabati area in Naivasha Township.

Police said the deceased, identified as Charles Ogendo Mutukiza, was outside the construction site when the stone fell from the roof and hit him on the head.

Ogendo was rushed to Naivasha Sub-County Referral Hospital for treatment but later succumbed to the injuries.

Police visited the construction site before proceeding to the hospital mortuary.

The officers found the deceased lying lifeless and noted a visible deep cut on his head, believed to have been caused by the impact of the falling stone.

The scene was processed and documented by CSI officers as investigations into the fatal workplace accident continued.

Meanwhile, police are investigating an incident where a 32-year-old man was found dead with multiple deep cuts and stab wounds in a farm in Kwa-Madaba, Kaloleni, Kilifi County.

The body of Jonathan Mwangala, a resident of Jibana, was discovered on Wednesday morning lying face down in a cultivated farm.

Police officers visited the scene after the incident was reported through the Mombasa Control Room.

According to police, Mwangala had several deep cuts on his head, stab wounds to the back of the neck, lower spine and both legs.

He also had defensive injuries on his hands, with his left hand broken and a finger on the right hand slashed. Police further noted blunt-force trauma to his chest and stomach.

His brother reportedly told police that the deceased had a mental disability.

Investigators suspect that Mwangala may have been killed elsewhere before his body was dumped at the farm.

A kitchen knife was recovered at the scene, while two rods—one wooden and another made from a piece of bamboo—were found about 40 metres away alongside an empty milk packet bearing blood stains. The items were collected as exhibits.

Scenes of Crime personnel photographed and processed the scene before the body was moved to the Kilifi County Referral Hospital mortuary, where it awaits a post-mortem examination.

No arrest had been made by the time of reporting, as detectives continued investigating the circumstances surrounding the killing.
