The management of Kenya Railways has announced that children above three years of age will pay the full fare to travel on the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) starting June 1.
According to the management, the changes are intended to improve services on Madaraka Express.
In a press release issued on Friday, the management stated that minors will also be required to present their parents’ or guardians’ ID as they book.
The minors, the management notes, will be required to pay Ksh1,500 for first class tickets and Ksh500 for economy class, compared to Ksh3,000 and Ksh1,000 by adults respectively.
Additionally, the Kenya Railways highlighted that passengers can now book tickets using their credit and debit cards.

They further noted that tickets sales shall be closed 30 minutes before the departure of any train.
The Kenya Railways also warned passengers against travelling without valid tickets or without them as they will be required to pay the full fare of the journey with an additional 30 per cent penalty.
All passengers will only be allowed to carry 2 pieces of luggage of maximum length and height of 1.6 meters with a total weight not more than 30 kilograms.
