In the most recent episode of ‘The 5th Estate’ with political analyst, Mutahi Ngunyi, warns of a collusion between the IEBC and the NASA presidential candidate, Raila Odinga to rig the elections.
Mutahi reckons that the president might be in for a nasty surprise if he exceedingly trusts the IEBC. He encourages Uhuru to occasionally take a swipe at the IEBC.
“If (Wafula) Chebukati was an ODM candidate at some point, when did this ODMness disappear? When did he become neutral? Was it the day they appointed him IEBC chair?” he poses through narrator 2M.
Chebukati, apparently served as an ODM member and contested the Saboti parliamentary seat in 2007 on the party’s ticket, losing to now CS Water, Eugene Wamalwa.
Mutahi asked the President to apply the Russian principle of political competition, ‘trust but verify.’
“Uhuru must not trust Chebukati and his wailing sisters. He must trust but verify. He must entertain the thought that Chebukati and Raila talk regularly. In fact, he should entertain the thought that the two are executing a scheme,” he said.
If Raila is attacking IEBC, Ngunyi opines, therefore the attacks are just a decoy and this could be to divert attention from a possible scheme. “Although this hypothetical position is far-fetched, Uhuru must follow the Russian rule before defending IEBC too much. He must trust but verify,” he says.
At the same time, Ngunyi warns that NASA co-principals will hang Raila out to dry if he provokes violence during the next general election.
To get to power, Ngunyi notes Raila has two options; to become president or force a coalition government.
He predicts that Musalia Mudavadi and Kalonzo will abandon Raila in case of a crisis, depicting him as a warmonger. “…and this is how the ICC will kick him. This is how Raila will be isolated and Kalonzo becomes prime minister,” he notes.
Raila Odinga in the same breath has warned the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to stop the tender awarded to a Dubai firm to print ballot papers.
Speaking on Monday, June 19, in Kangemi, Raila maintained that the IEBC has no option but to cancel the tender if the August 8 polls have to go on as planned.
He also told off IEBC CEO Ezra Chiloba for helping Jubilee to win the election. “Chiloba, please stop assisting Jubilee to rig the elections. We can’t accept Al Ghurair to print ballot papers. There are plans to print excess ballot papers to manipulate the polls,” he said.
It is not clear if NASA will again institute the removal of Chiloba and Kasait from office but the coalition has threatened to boycott the polls should Al Ghurair print the ballots.
