At least four people were found dead after drowning in separate incidents reported by police.

Another man died by drowning in a suicide mission in his compound in Makutano area, Kirinyaga County.

The first incident happened in Athi River area, Machakos County where a Chinese national drowned as he tried to cross a swollen river.

Police said the incident happened on April 6 and involved one Qui Jia, 21.

He tried to cross a flooded Athi River from a quarry he had been working on when he drowned.

Witnesses said he was on foot from Katani, to Kinanie, where he resides when he drowned.

The body was swept downstream and efforts to trace him are ongoing, police said.

In Makindu, Makueni County, a juvenile aged 10 drowned as he swam in a pool of water.

Police said the boy was swimming in the Athi dam within Windiu village when he drowned on April 7. Police officers visited the scene and found the body floating on the water.

Personnel from the Red Cross and police officers managed to retrieve the body before taking it to the mortuary pending autopsy.

In Oruba, Migori County, a four-year-old girl was found dead on the River Migori after suspected drowning.

The girl is said to have tried to cross the river alone when she was swept away by the raging waters.

Her body was retrieved and moved to Migori County mortuary pending autopsy.

Police have warned most rivers are swollen due to heavy rains being experienced in separate parts of the country.

There are fears many people have been swept by the waters and the bodies are yet to be found.

Police said in Makutano area, a man drowned in a family borehole in a suicide mission.

Police said they are yet to retrieve the body by Tuesday because it had not floated.

Experts were called from the local county government to help in retrieving the body of Peter Mbugua.

The motive of the incident is yet to be known.
