    Cilli Drexel, whose full name is Cäcilia Drexel, is a German actress and theater director born in 1975 in Munich.

    She is the daughter of the renowned actress Ruth Drexel and actor Hans Brenner, growing up in a family deeply rooted in the performing arts.

    Drexel has established herself as a prominent figure in contemporary German theater.

    This blended her experiences as both a performer and a director to bring innovative productions to stages across the country.

    Siblings

    Cilli has two half-siblings from her parents’ respective relationships.

    On her mother’s side, she has an older half-sister, Katharina Adami, born in 1956 to Ruth Drexel and her first husband, Michael Adami.

    From her father’s side, she shares a half-brother, the acclaimed actor Moritz Bleibtreu, whose mother is actress Monica Bleibtreu.

    Career

    Drexel’s career began with acting roles at notable venues such as the Münchener Volkstheater, the Theater der Stadt Heidelberg, and the Tiroler Landestheater.

    She later pursued formal training in directing, studying from 2002 to 2006 at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Hamburg.

    Her directorial work has taken her to prestigious theaters including the Deutsches Theater Berlin, Schauspiel Leipzig, Schauspiel Essen, Theater Basel, and the E.T.A.-Hoffmann-Theater Bamberg.

    From 2009 to 2012, she served as the resident director at the Nationaltheater Mannheim, where she honed her expertise in contemporary drama.

    Drexel has directed a range of productions, including “Defending Europe” by Konstantin Küspert, “Das achte Leben (Für Brilka)” based on Nino Haratischwili’s novel, “Verlangen,” and “Kolumbus oder Die ‘Entdeckung’ Amerikas.”

    In addition to her directing, she continues to act and serves as a mentor at the Theaterakademie Hamburg, contributing to the development of new talent in the industry.

    Accolades

    Drexel has received recognition for her contributions to theater, particularly in contemporary works.

    Notably, her production of “Defending Europe” by Konstantin Küspert earned the audience award at the Mülheimer Theatertage in 2017.
