Now in their second year, CIO100 Awards recognize East African organizations that have taken risks on emerging technology or deployed the tried-and-true in a new way. The awards will celebrate 100 organizations (and the people within them) in East Africa that are using information technology in innovative ways to deliver business value, whether by creating competitive advantage, optimizing business processes, enabling growth or improving relationships with customers.

Perhaps you built a better business process or fostered closer collaboration. Or, you found ways to get more from existing customers, to pursue new markets, to save money or to make more. Here’s your chance to tell your peers about the technology innovations that have enabled or led the way to greater success for your organization.

The awards are not targeted at vendors of technology products, but are aimed at showcasing the value of technology-driven services that leverage a company’s nontechnology core competency. This is the perfect opportunity for CIOs and senior IT executives to share with their peers the technology innovations that have enabled or led the way to greater success for their organization.

To be selected, applicants must show the extent to which they are using IT in a new way or how IT is enabling new ways of doing business, whether internally or externally. Applicants must also show the measurable impact (business value delivery) of their project, backed up by supporting data.

Teams of CIO judges will review the applications and make recommendations about each entrant. The team will debate how each company stacks up against the others in terms of the depth and breadth of their practices, their creativity and the specific measurable results of their achievements. Judging will be purely based on the information submitted in the application form, therefore entrants are encouraged to be conclusive in their application, and include any information about their projects or initiatives that they would like the judges to consider.

Last year’s CIO100 award winning projects reflected important characteristics in East African enterprises – maturity and strategy. The applications received had a diverse representation from all sectors of the economy. In many of the winning organisations, we saw projects that were inspired by real demand, efficiency and cost saving leading to the deployment of sustainable innovation. New revenue generation was coming straight out of IT groups. East African CIOs showed that their thinking is strategic, and they were pushing their organizations to seek out new ways to engage customers.

This year’s awards are expected to be bigger and better. Because the award is given to companies rather than individuals, it’s an honor everyone on your staff can take pride in. Executives from honored companies will be recognized among their peers and colleagues at the CIO 100 Symposium & Awards Ceremony, to be held at The Nairobi Safari Park Hotel, November 23 – 24, 2011.

Apply for the awards at (www.cio.co.ke/cio100 ) and be recognized.
