City Club Faces Closure Over Noise Pollution

Orchid Lounge

A popular Nairobi nightclub, Orchid Lounge, is facing imminent closure for operating without a valid nightclub license and failing to comply with noise pollution regulations.

Nairobi County Chief Officer for Environment Geoffrey Mosira said the club has been running without meeting the necessary legal requirements, despite repeated warnings.

“Despite being served with written notices and verbal warnings, the establishment has failed to follow our directives, including the requirement to install proper soundproofing to reduce noise disturbance to nearby residents,” Mosira stated.

As a result, the county has issued a 72-hour Notice of Intended Closure, demanding a satisfactory explanation from the club for its continued violation of county rules.

If the club fails to respond or comply, the county will proceed with enforcement action, including shutting down the premises.

Mosira also sent a strong warning to other entertainment spots violating noise limits, adding that the county had already mapped out specific hotspots for inspection and possible action.

“We have already zoned specific areas hotspots areas that we shall be visiting to take action,” he said.
