CJ Koome Establishes New Environment and Land Court in Limuru

Chief Justice Martha Koome has announced the establishment of a new Environment and Land Court in Limuru, Kiambu County.

According to a gazette notice dated October 22, 2025, the court will officially begin operations on January 15, 2026.

“Take notice that the Chief Justice and President of the Supreme Court of Kenya has established an Environment and Land Court at Limuru, Kiambu County, with effect from the 15th January, 2026,” the notice stated.

In the same notice, Justice Koome also announced the Supreme Court’s annual December recess, which will run from December 21, 2025, to January 13, 2026.

During the recess, a duty judge will be available to handle urgent matters. The Supreme Court Registry will remain open to the public from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on all weekdays except public holidays.
