CJ Koome places JKIA Magistrates’ Courts under Kibera High Court supervision

The Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (Jomo Kenyatta International Airport) Magistrates’ Courts will now operate under the supervisory jurisdiction of the Kibera High Court, in a new administrative directive issued by the Judiciary.

Chief Justice Martha Koome announced the change through a Gazette Notice dated May 8, 2026, citing Section 12 of the High Court (Organisation and Administration) Act. The directive took effect on May 4, 2026.

Under the new arrangement, the JKIA Magistrates’ Court is among designated Special Magistrates’ Courts mandated to handle cases involving possession and trafficking of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances, particularly those with both domestic and international dimensions.

Other courts placed under similar specialised jurisdiction include the Kahawa Magistrates’ Court, Mombasa Magistrates’ Court, and Busia Magistrates’ Court.
